Newborn Session Information
Age
The best age to capture your baby in those amazing curly baby poses is between 5-10 days but anywhere up to 2 weeks is great. I can do it a little later and up to 3 weeks is possible:) All babies are different and not all babies will go into all poses. I am lead by what the baby wants to do and will only do poses that they are happy letting us do. Some of the poses are what we call 'composite' photos which is when we use photoshop and put two photos together. The safety of your baby is my priority and I will not do anything that they don't like or is risky:) I can get all the beautiful shots we need very safely. I may need you to help by sitting with your hand on your baby or very close by and then I can edit the shot later.
Many of these shots are done when your baby is asleep and settled which is one reason why the age of the baby matters. Before 3 weeks they sleep a lot:)
Photographs with siblings and mum and dad are included in the shoot so if you would like them please let me know.
I don't have an assistant with me so I may ask for your help in positioning or soothing during the session:)
How To Prepare and what to bring
We advise that your baby is kept awake for about an hour before your shoot. Once you arrive (or I arrive at your house) we will undress the baby and wrap them in a warm blanket. At this point you can feed your baby and they will then hopefully be very settled and stay asleep for a while. What I do tell my clients though is not to stress out about getting baby to sleep. If the baby is awake for a while we can get some lovely shots with their eyes wide open:) I personally think its nice to have a variety of shots asleep and awake if possible.
The sessions can last for 2-4 hours and this is so we can take plenty of breaks so bring snacks and magazines if you like and most of all relax:) Make sure you have plenty of milk for the baby in case they need a few feeds along the way. Babies are unpredictable and it really doesn't matter if they don't sleep a lot - just relax.
This is custom photography so it is tailored around you. You can bring a favourite toy, a piece of jewellry or the newspaper from babies date of birth to the session and we can incorporate it in.
Bring with you some snacks if you want to and some magazines etc. If your baby has a dummy then bring that if it helps sooth them. As you will be here for a while bring plenty of milk if you are bottlefeeding.
Enviroment and Accidents
My newborn photography studio is based near Manchester and I cover all areas including Manchester, Greater Manchester, lancashire and West Yorkshire.
My studio is a purpose built studio in the loft looking out over the town. I keep it nice and comfortable for my newborns. I have a little heater that I have in my Studio so we can keep the area the baby is in nice and warm. This can mean the whole room gets very warm so make sure you wear light clothes or layers so you feel comfortable.
It's not a subject that people want to talk about but babies poo:) As the baby is naked for most of the session it is inevitable that they will have little accidents. This is absolutely fine and it is more of a shock when it doesn't happen so don't be shocked or worried. Everything can go in the wash!
Clothes & Artwork
The best colour of clothes to wear if you are wanting to be included in the photographs are plain, neutral colours so black, white and browns are good and no logos if possible. It is always ideal to bring a few changes in case the baby has an accident or just to have a variety of shots:)
Artwork
I offer the option of digital and printed artwork. I will forward a price list of everything I offer over to you but there is no pressure. You will get a USB stick with the images you have paid for and this comes with all printing rights which enables you to get them printed where you want to. You can buy extra images either separately or in bundles. These will be on the price list.
